LOVE Wins: How are you?

Barbara: Great, and you?

LOVE Wins: You have two kids at the age of 3 and 8 years.   How are they reacting to the situation?

Barbara: For the last three years, we have been living in the Philippines. In this context, the kids have already a lot of experiences with earthquakes. At the time of the earthquake we were inside a shop. We took our children, left the shop looking for a safe position in the middle of the road outside. Although the kids were afraid of the situation they did not start to scream but following our instruction in calm way. Nevertheless, it was a very stressful situation for them especially because of the series of aftershock within the next 52 hours.

LOVE Wins: What do you think could have been done better by the emergency assistants?

Barbara: I have no idea about the work of the emergency assistants in general. What I can say is, that we were very disappointed about the performance of the German and Austrian embassy. Our family consists of two germans and two austrians. Even more than 48 hours after the first main earthquake we did not get any assistance through the German or Austrian embassy. On the one hand, there was no representative of the embassies at the the airport in Kathmandu trying to assist in this difficult situation. On the other hand, there was also no support from the German embassy once you were able to reach them by phone. Finally we were able to fly out of Nepal with the support of the polish embassy that have sent their consult from Delhi to Katmandhu.

LOVE Wins: Do you have any information about things that happened which media hasn’t reported about?

Barbara: As I said there was no support – at least 52 hours after the first earthquake – from the German embassy. We spent almost 9 hours in front of the airport in Kathmandu without recognizing a representative of the embassy.

LOVE Wins: Do you want to share any final comments?
